Obituary of Patrick J. Connolly

Patrick J. Connolly, 89, of Hewlett, NY peacefully passed away at home on January 14, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Patrick was born on December 2, 1934 to the late Michael J. “Jerry” and Susan Ann (Hoines) Connolly. A proud Bronx native who grew up on Bruckner Blvd where he spent his days playing basketball in the school yards, and hurling at Gaelic Park. It was here where he met his oldest friend, Dennis Buckley. He graduated with honors from Cardinal Hayes High School in 1951. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy. Upon returning home, he married Eileen (Sullivan) in 1958 and together they raised their four daughters on Claflin Avenue in the Bronx before relocating to Hewlett. He had a long and successful career with NYTel/ AT&T, and later Merrill Lynch. Pat was a proud Irishman, AOH member, and devoted friend to many. He enjoyed his summers spent with friends and family at his home in Southampton Cove where he liked to spend his days at the beach clamming, fishing and swimming. His greatest joy was his four daughters and their families. Pat is predeceased by his wife, Eileen, beloved sister, Susan Oliveri, and great granddaughter, Symonne Hayes. And he is survived by his four daughters - Eileen Hayes (Pierce), Maureen A. Connolly, Geraldine S. Connolly (John Sporing), and Sheila A. Douglas (Jim), his 13 grandchildren - Deirdre Redding (Brian), Daniel P. Hayes (Tara), Brian P. Hayes (Erica), Moira Rachel (Alex), Patrick P. Hayes (Melissa), Brendan P. Hayes (Kathryn), Kate Connolly, Kelly Douglas, Cara Stern (Ryan), Jack Douglas, Hannah Connolly-Sporing, Annie Connolly-Sporing, and Patricia Douglas, and his 21 great-grandchildren who all loved him dearly. Calling hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 on Wednesday, January 17th at Perry’s Funeral Home in Lynbrook. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 18 at 11 am at St. Joseph’s RC Church in Hewlett followed immediately by burial at St. Raymond’s Cemetery in the Bronx.
