Hundreds remember Elaine Garrison (Miss Elaine) from their early childhoods. A gifted educator, her teaching career spanned nearly 60 years (1946 through 2002), including kindergarten for the New York City Public School system and nursery school at Lynbrook's Intercommunity Nursery School, Lawrence Country Day School, and Trinity Church's His Kids. She taught Sunday school at St James United Methodist Church in Lynbrook and for almost two decades was a pivotal leader of the local chapter of Camp Fire Girls, which she founded in the late 1950s.
Miss Elaine suffered a stroke six years ago and has been incapacitated since that time. She leaves behind her loving husband, Edwin, their daughters Elaine Price (Gaithersburg, Maryland), Alice Garrison (Lynbrook), Nancy Chafetz (Lynbrook), and Roberta Garrison-Mogren (Glenelg, Maryland), grandchildren Rachel Carr (Latham, NY), Rebecca Kless (Germantown, Maryland), Gary Chafetz (Amsterdam, NY), and Cynthia Cook (Finksburg, Maryland), and seven great grandchildren: Carter and Joshua Carr, Behr, AJ, and Pierson Kless, and Ezekial and Clara Cook.
Friends may call at Perry Funeral Home on Union Avenue in Lynbrook on Sunday, March 5th from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. Funeral Service will be held there on Monday, March 6th, at 11:00 AM.
