Dear Anastasia, Renier, Amanda, Melissa and family,
With great sorrow I give to you and the children my condolences on the passing of our beloved Bert.
I am really shocked and I send you much love, strength and caring.
I will give to you this poem that I once have chosen to share on my own funeral.
I do hope it will bring you peace, comfort, and strength.

Dear family Schepers
I wish to share my condolences with family and friends. I found a picture of Bert attending at my 5th anniversary, his face just above the birthday cake. I didn't manage to upload the picture and sent it tot Kees. Bert was my great example, he went to secondary school Juvenaat just a year before I did. Bergen op Zoom was the big city for us village-boys. Together we managed it and Kees followed the year after me. I cherish the conversations we had on the road to school and back home in the car with mr van Nieuwenhuizen.

In 1987 my friend Liesbeth Augustijn (from De Heen) and I came to visit you in Brooklyn.
We had a great time and Bert showed us the city.
You both were so nice to us en we had an excellent stay in New York thanks to both of you.

There is a great emptiness left by Bert’s passing, but I am certain that the strength of the love that you and your family share for each other will get you through this difficult time. May that love honor Bert's memory and may you cherish the time you had together. I especially remember his gentle spirit and loving nature. They will always be remembered as an especially giving person of great character. I often recall when we first met Bert at NYCT, we had a mutual love of European sporting events and sailing. His wonderful acts of kindness which I’ll never forget, and which demonstrates the type of person that he was.
May the outpouring of love you have received since his parting serve as a reminder to you and your family of how much he was loved by all who knew him. I'm sorry I never got to meet the family, but he would always talk of his trips with the family and endeavors on the sea. Though you may have been kept apart physically by the miles between you, the emotional bond and love between you was as strong as if you were living in the same city. Bert was a valuable and highly respected member at NYCT and as a vendor, you don't often find caring, compassionate, and professional partners. The effects of his loss are being felt already by those of us who had the honor and pleasure of working with him over my 20 years.
I’m so sorry I could not be there in person to convey my condolences. Though I may be far away, know that my spirit and prayers are with you and your family.
