Geff [and Family]: I guess your dad had his reasons for not talking about his war experiences. Losing a dad however old is difficult, but it is nice to remember that he had a long, full life right up to the end. At Howie’s mother’s funeral the Rabbi said “ we gather here today not because Terry died, but because Terry lived..” I like that concept of a funeral. See you soon, Chuck

Family and Friends: George C Fennimore has passed on. I just got a call from Gladdie that dad has passed on during the night around 5AM. 6/24/10. Wake is Sunday and funeral Monday. Just yesterday morning we found out that he had been "authorized to wear the Bronze Star on the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon for participation in the Mandated Island Campaign at some time during the period 31 Jan 44 to 1 Dec 44..." His Honorble Discharge papers show he fought at Luzon, Peliliu, Angaur, and the Northern Solomons campaigns, all horrific battles. He never talked about it, and he never even told anyone that he'd was awarded the bronze star, not even Mom. He will be missed. Geoffrey

Geoff, [George, Gladys and Aunt Gladys:] So sorry, he was a favorite uncle among many favorites and an exceptional person in every respect. His gentle manner and wise words made a lifelong impression on me growing up. [Uncle]George always took the time to talk with each of his nephews and we always knew Uncle George was around when you smelled the pipe tobacco in the air. Can still remember it. He was a very special guy, and I am not surprised by the recognition for his courage in the face of what must have been unimaginable in war. Please share our condolences with your Mom and family. Our thoughts and prayers are with George right now. Marisa plans to attend the wake with Louella on Sunday, and I will be there as well. Still catching up with Chris. Let me know if you need any help. Warm Regards, Cousin Steve

Messages of Condolence Received: Dear Aunt Gladys, George, Geff and Gladdie, and family, My heart goes out to you in this sad time - this goodbye is very difficult. Thanks for letting us know the news. Love, Patty McGrath 301-299-6350 home 571-243-1856 cell ……………………………………………………………………………………………… Hi Geff, Please accept my most heart felt condolences on the passing of your Dad. Your dad was a true hero, not one of these generic good guys that everyone wants to slap that title on. "Hero" has been devalued. Your Dad won the "Bronze Star". That really says something about the man, and he was part of the greatest generation They did the job they were sent to do and he came back, which many did not, & he came back with that medal. You really have something to be proud of Geff. Once again, my condolences. Regards, Marty ……………………………………………………………………………………………… Alex and I are sorry hear of Uncle George's passing; he is going to be sorely missed. I am sure that we will speak with you in the coming days, but please accept our condolences. Over the past few hours I haven't been able to stop thinking about the conversation I had with your father about making runs to White Castle when he was young. It's one of those fantastic moments of random connection between generations that I will treasure for the rest of my life and will always make me smile. James [Dougherty] ……………………………………………………………………………………………… Dear Geoffrey,,, I am so sorry to hear of your father's passing,,,,, It is always a shock and sad ,, even when it is expected,,,,,Please give my sympathy to your mom and family,,,, My thoughts and prayers are with you,,,,, love gar [Whitey Garguilo] AXP ……………………………………………………………………………………………… Mr F I am sorry for the loss your family has experienced. At work my boss (Bill), Monica (my favorite coworker who was at our wedding & who always makes me feel better during sad times) , and everyone else extends their condolences.. Love you. Jodi ……………………………………………………………………………………………… Geoff, So sorry for your loss. Your dad sounds like he was quite a guy. I'm happy for you and for him that he lived to witness your marriage to Jodi. That must have been very special, surely something he never thought he would see. My deepest sympathy to you & your family. Maryann Vermuelen ……………………………………………………………………………………………… Dear Geff, My heart goes out to you and the family. It's a tough thing to face, no matter how old or how sick or how "expected" it was. I wondered if there was a particular charity that your Dad was interested in. Please let me know if you think of it. Please know that I'm thinking fondly of all of you. Pauline [Fennimore] ……………………………………………………………………………………………… Geff, I am so sorry to hear about you Dad. What a loss for you. But just know he is in a better place and still taking care of you from above. Another one of our unsung Heroes to be so proud of !! You are so very fortunate to have shared a lifetime with him! Phyllis Jones ……………………………………………………………………………………………… Lots of love to all of you. I will see you on Sunday. My parents are trying to make arrangements to fly back for the funeral. Love, Kitty Geff, I'm so sorry to receive word of the passing of your Dad. George Farrell ……………………………………………………………………………………………... Geff I am so sorry to hear this sad news. Your Dad was a good man. I have many good memories of him. Please give my sympathy and good wishes to your Mom George and Gladdie for me and of course to yourself. Bill Schweizer …………………………………………………………………………………………….. It's tough losing your father... Wishing you well, Benji Gilmore AXP ……………………………………………………………………………………………… God bless George C Fennimore. We will miss him. [Tom Dougherty] ……………………………………………………………………………………………… RIP Mr. Fennimore....wow- a remarkable man!! I am so glad I got the pleasure to see his proud, smiling face as he saw his precious son get married last October! xo Gina Gina Marie Liebov ……………………………………………………………………………………………… Dear Geff, My condolences. This is not only one of the most painful experiences many of us have the privilege of sharing, but also one of the most thought provoking, becoming more so as time passes - as long as we live - and we begin to grasp how profound and pivotal - how cathartic a parent's passing really is. Few days will be void of thoughts of your father. Whether it be a glimpse here and there of your relationship with him, or just seeing over and over again that special look of delight that would that occasionally come across his face; it is all there for us to consider and perceive so that we can live more meaningful and fulfilled lives. Love and forgiveness are the conduits of growth that we must embrace for our own happiness and understanding. It takes time and a willing consciousness. Your mention of the Pacific Islands campaigns reminds me of my Uncle Roger who died suddenly in 1997. My cousins asked me to write a newspaper article about him and to perform the eulogy at his funeral. Like you, I discovered much about him that few were aware. He was in the 1st Marine Division and also fought in many of the battles in the South Pacific (incl. Peleliu) receiving commendations that were never celebrated - or revealed. Our fathers and uncles, etc. were of "The Greatest Generation" - there is ever so much to be gleaned from their experience and the unused advantage of hindsight... I picture you and Jodi walking the beach together, hand in hand, in silence, taking it all in and acknowledging your special bond together and with God. I will do likewise. With love, Mike Wilson AXP ……………………………………………………………………………………………… Dear Geff and Jodi- We're so sorry that your father died. Please keep us informed. We'll be in touch. x-Ned and Holly ……………………………………………………………………………………………… He was a very, very brave and special person. We are so very sorry about your loss. Sandee & Allen ………………………………………………………………………………………………

Geoff and Jodi: Was so sorry to hear this. Another of the greatest generation, a Bronze Star, no less. Be blessed that you had him so long and that his end was quick and without pain. Learning of his loyal and heroic service was a little going away gift. Remember that friends are God's life preservers. Will be in touch, my friend. Paul Petersen AXP-
