Downey, Ellen (nee Mulcahy) born in Limerick, Ireland and long-time resident of Woodmere, NY on February 27, 2009 at the age of 86. Beloved wife of the late Dennis Downey. Loving sister of Mary Smyth, Nora Luckman and Sheila Weaver. Special godmother of David Smyth. Beloved aunt of Peter, John, the late Daniel, Michael, David and Maureen Smyth. Aunt Nell was a special Aunt, Great Aunt and Great-Great Aunt to many and she will be dearly missed. She was an avid golfer, card player and a longtime member and past officer of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 3. She emigrated to the United States on the QE2 in the 1960's. Reposing Monday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Perry Funeral Home, Inc. 118 Union Ave. Lynbrook, NY. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday 10:30 AM at St. Joachim's RC Church in Cedarhurst. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery Westbury, NY. In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to St. Joachim's RC Church.
