Beckley, Paul V. Age 98 passed away Saturday, November 29, 2008. Paul was born on February 17, 1910 in Tulsa, OK. He was preceded in death by his wife Frances on November 11, 1993. He is survived by his three children Michael, Patrick & Laurel; seven grand children Michael, Patrick, Paul, Kathleen, Susan, Thomas & James and 13 great grandchildren. Paul worked as a reporter for the Kansas City Journal and moved to New York in 1941 to begin working as a reporter for the New York Herald Tribune. During WWII he served in the 75th I.D. as Cmdr. of a heavy weapons platoon in the European Theatre of Operations before being discharged from Ft. Bragg as a 1st Lt. of the 82nd A.D. After the war Paul returned to the Herald Tribune as a reporter and eventually became one of New York City's finest movie critics. It was often said that his review would make or break a film. Paul left the Tribune to become a senior writer for the CBS news at 6 O'clock. Paul was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 1033 Elmont and VFW. The family will receive friends Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Perry Funeral Home Inc. 118 Union Ave. Lynbrook, NY. Service Friday 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home with interment to follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
