Thank you all for coming today to celebrate our father’s life. On behalf of our mom, Michelle, Jerry, our children, and myself, your presence brings us comfort during this difficult time.
When measuring a person’s character, the best approach is to observe how they live their life and who they choose to surround themselves with. Our father chose wisely. The love and support we've received over the past few days remind us of how deeply our father was loved and admired by his family and friends—the very people he cherished throughout his life.
Jerry and I are incredibly fortunate to have witnessed our father’s remarkable character every day. It has always been clear to us that he was a man of extraordinary integrity, built on a profound commitment to his family, starting with his unwavering love for our mom, the love of his life.
Trust, patience, respect, and affection defined their relationship. From a young age, they grew together in a beautiful marriage, one that began with their engagement at the 1969 East Rockaway Prom. Their promise to each other fueled their dedication to what mattered most: Jerry, Cristine, Griffin, Harrison, Cameron, Angelina, Gennaro, and me. I don’t know of a luckier family than ours.
Our dad was the quintessential Gentle Giant. He spoke little, but his words were always filled with kindness and love. In the past few days, I learned even more about his lasting impact from those who visited. Friends and family shared beautiful stories about how he quietly left a mark on their lives, making everyone feel valued and loved.
Every visitor—whether childhood friends from Brooklyn, classmates from Lynbrook High School, or colleagues from the Long Island Water Company—echoed the same sentiment: “Your dad was simply the best. Very few people share his kindness, and we loved him so much.” Even our friends from childhood shared heartwarming memories from our home at 13 Everet Street, our loving home for nearly 52 years.
Growing up in our house was a gift. Our dad created lifelong memories for us—fishing and crabbing at Bay Park, decorating Christmas cookies and gingerbread houses, always showering us with love, comfort, and support. His creativity brought us joy: he built me a dollhouse modeled after our childhood home, and Jerry and I were thrilled when he finished our backyard clubhouse. The day he surprised us with a pool is a cherished memory. Yet, these stories are just a glimpse of our life with him.
Jerry and I, along with our parents’ grandchildren, were blessed to grow up in a home filled with love, a love that stemmed from our mom and dad. Their marriage was truly one of a kind, guiding how they lived their lives and how they treated everyone around them. I doubt they fully realized the profound impact their love had on all of us who spent time with them.
The other morning, Cameron shared something she wrote about Grammy and Grandpa that I would like to share with all of you:
“My grandma and grandpa’s marriage is something I always brag about to my friends. They met when my grandma was my age and when I think about that it is honestly crazy to me. The morning after my grandpa’s passing, my grandma and I were talking about how young they were when they met and I said to her, “I can’t even imagine meeting a boy right now and staying with him for the rest of my life, mostly because boys at this age stink! My grammy replied and said, “I understand, but your grandpa was sweet and shy and had all the qualities you would want from a boy, (except that he wasn’t rich!)” We laughed like we have every single time we talk about how they met because it is a story that I will always want to listen to and share. A story I have heard her tell me over and over again for years, and I will continue to listen to my grammy tell it because I loved growing up watching the love they shared with each other. We will take care of grammy for you, grandpa. You will be missed so much by all of us. I love you always and forever. 143” I love you, Cameron.
I don’t believe the pain of never seeing our dad again will ever fully fade. While we will always hold him in our hearts and carry his memory with us, our hearts are undeniably hurting. When you love someone so deeply—someone who loved us just as fiercely—and they are taken from you, the grief is profoundly devastating.
I know we will look for his signs; they will surely appear every day. Whether through his love of music or his appreciation for nature, we will find him in those moments.
Please carry my father’s memory in your hearts and walk through life as he did—as the kindest soul to ever grace this world.
Thank you.

The Giannotti home was my second home growing up. Just a few blocks away from my house, I made some of my favorite childhood memories with Mary, Jerry, Mr. and Mrs. Giannotti. Their home was warm, cozy welcoming and filled with love, laughter and always a cuddly cat. Mr. Giannotti was a big teddy bear. He was always smiling. He had a funny way of saying my name when I came into their home. This always made me smile and feel at home…summers in their pool, winters and holidays at their home, sledding, vacationing in Atlantic City, sleepover’s galore…I will cherish these memories always. What a wonderful home and life you created for your family and friends. I know you will always be near your family, watching over them with love and protection. God bless you and keep you. Rest in peace, Mr G❤️Nancy
