Obituary of Josephine Weston
Please share a memory of Josephine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Josephine Weston 94 of Valley Stream, NY passed away peacefully on September 27, 2024,
at Northwell Hospital, Manhasset NY. She was born in Manhattan the 4th daughter to Anna
and Charles Uzzo. Her sisters Carmella, Ann, Catherine and her brother Sonny all
predeceased her. Josephine worked her entire career at the New York Life Insurance
Company in New York City as a secretary and quickly advanced to an Executive Secretary.
She did not have children but loved babies. So, after work she volunteered at the New York
Foundling, an orphanage run by the Sisters of Charity for abandoned infants. There, she
would tend to babies in the evening, feeding, caring for and readying them for bedtime.
During her career she met the love of her life, George, 16 years her senior, and on September
25, 1977, they were married. Through George's children Josephine became a grandma and
once again enjoyed caring for little ones. Jo and George loved to golf, and they were
snowbirds going down to Florida every winter to meet up with friends once they retired. She
was a longtime member of Holy Name of Mary Church in Valley Stream and on Sunday's she
would pick up elderly parishioners and bring them to church with her. She liked being social
and was the president of a golf group called the T Birds. Josephine was a member of the
Homemakers Council of Nassau County Baldwin Chapter. She served as President of the
Baldwin Chapter for a term and currently was the Sunshine Lady for them. A very fitting title
for Josephine. At Homemaker's she was everybody's Aunt Jo. She enjoyed shopping,
sewing, gardening, flowers, vacations, basking in the sun, crafts and she was an avid reader
of suspense and mystery books. She also took weekly lessons learning how to paint her
favorite place to visit, lighthouses. She lived a good long life and she could recount the
history she experienced in an interesting and captivating way.
Josephine is survived by her nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great
nieces and nephews and lately 5 great great great nieces and 1 nephew as well as
grandchildren and great grandchildren. The lord was good to her and she enjoyed all the
children that came into her life. These were some of the reasons why you would always find
her smiling. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones as well as her friends.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made in Josephine's name to the
American Heart Association. You can find the printable donation form at heart.org
