Obituary of Dorothy M. Ehmsen

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
In Loving Memory of Dorothy M. Ehmsen November 26,1931- April 22, 2024 Dorothy Marie Catherine Laboure Dodd Ehmsen, adored mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, left this world on April 22, 2024, at the age of 92. Dorothy, known affectionately as "Dottie Dodd" leaves behind a legacy as rich as her love for chocolate. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, celebrating a life full of love, belly laughs, and incredible memories. Dorothy was born to spread joy, and that's exactly what she did throughout her remarkable life. Predeceased by her dear brothers George and Donald Dodd and her loving husband of 40 years, Wilfred Ehmsen, who knew the way her heart was through ice cream and music. They met at Stokes Ice Cream Parlor when he offered her a nickel to play a song on the jukebox, and the rest is history! Dorothy leaves behind a family who adored her. Survived by her cherished children Daniel (Maura), Kathleen (Tom), Bill (Eileen Mary), Frederick Charles (Kath), Lisa, and Dorothy Jean, as well as her treasured grandchildren Kathleen, Jessica, Shannon, Brielle, Isabella, and Ryan, great grandchildren Brady, Margaret, Jack, Cameran, and Torri, and furry grandchildren Kit Kat, Cupcake (aka Tip Top), Max, Charlee & Delilah. Dorothy's love, care for others and selflessness knew no bounds. She poured her heart and soul into her family, creating a home filled with warmth and laughter. Dorothy's professional journey was as impressive as it was varied. As an ICU & ER nurse, medical malpractice investigator, and life care planner, she dedicated her life to caring for others. Her compassion and dedication touched countless lives, earning her the admiration and gratitude of all who knew her. Beyond her career, Dorothy was a force of nature in her community. Whether she was leading both Girl & Boy Scout troops, teaching Catechism, or serving on the PTA, Dorothy was always at the forefront, making a difference wherever she went. Dorothy wasn't all work and no play. She had a zest for life that was truly infectious. She had a sweet tooth for chocolate & ice cream, a love affair with coffee, and an insatiable appetite for adventure. From cheering on the Mets, to getting tan and catching waves on the beach, Dorothy embraced every moment with boundless enthusiasm. Dorothy's adventures took her across continents and oceans, her suitcase always packed with both wanderlust and an extra stash of sweets. She believed that life was too short not to live it to the fullest, making friends and memories around the world along the way. Like her father “Scottie” before her, she always said “There are no strangers! Only friends I haven’t yet met!” In her (fleeting!) quiet moments, Dorothy could always be found with a stack of newspapers, enjoying a good book or challenging herself to a game of solitaire. But it was her incredible storytelling that truly captivated those around her. With a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face, Dorothy had a knack for turning even the simplest of moments into unforgettable tales that left everyone in belly laughs! Though Dorothy may no longer be with us in body, her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her laughter and love will echo in our hearts forever. Always quick to make a new friend, we know she is already getting the next party started! Rest in peace Dottie Dodd! May your adventures in the great beyond be filled with endless sweets and laughter.
