Brigid Roarty age 92 passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 28 surrounded and comforted by her children, Maureen, Kathleen, Sean and Peter.
Brigid was born in Rann na Feirsde, County Donegal, Ireland and was the fifth of 10 children. Engaged to John, they immigrated to New York where they were married in December 1956. They settled in Brooklyn and later moved to Lynbrook, Long Island where they have lived since 1968.
Brigid was a loyal parishioner at St.Joseph's Church in Hewlett. Together with her husband John she was an active member of the Irish American Society for over 50 years. She was also an enthusiastic member of the Traditional Irish Musician's Club in the late 60's and then a founding member of the Mulligan Quinn Comhaltas Branch. She held the position of Irish Language Officer at the regional level for many years. A talented sean nos singer and Irish speaker, she adjudicated singing competitions and taught Gaelic lessons during her tenure with Comhaltas. Brigid was a passionate ceili and set dancer and enjoyed nothing more than a night of dancing.
Brigid was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.
