Obituary
Obituary of James "Lucky" Barrett Sr.
Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James Hugh Barrett of Wantagh, NY and Boynton Beach, FL, 80, died on June 2, 2023 at his
home in Wantagh, NY.
James was born in Jamaica, Queens on September 2, 1942 to Jean and James Barrett.
Jim proudly served in the Army and as an Army Reservist. He had a very positive
outlook on life, with an easy going personality. He was an entirely selfless person who was
known to help anyone that needed it. Showing up to every sport, social, or random event his
children and grandchildren were in. He was everyone's loudest cheerleader and was always
proud!! He made everyone he met feel welcome and loved within minutes of meeting him.
Driving his grandchildren around to their endless activities and teaching them the country music
classics was a weekly activity he enjoyed and never turned down. He was even one of the few
people who loved driving and picking up anyone who needed a ride to the airport. His winter
escape to Florida with his wife were some of his favorite months of the year, where he spent the
majority of the time playing golf and cards and attending all the parties Paulette signed them up
for.
He was an electrician for IBEW in Local 25 for over 15 years. He has worked on and
fixed every one of his children's homes, apartments or condos as well as almost every friend he
has. Jim was known by many as "Lucky". It was his CB radio handle when he spent many years
providing for his family as a Freight Truck Driver and Teamster for 30 years and Shop Steward
at JFK Airport.
James Hugh Barrett is survived by his wife Paulette of 59 years. His five children, Patti,
Maria, Jimmy, Deirdre and Erin Lee. Their spouses, Ted, Scott, Jennifer, Leo and Bob. His
grandchildren, Zachary, Samantha, Drew, Sierra, Payton, Piper, Parker, Kaelyn, Mateo and his
first great granddaughter, Harley.
Jim's family would appreciate donations in honor of his granddaughter, Payton Holtkamp,
to support the research to find a cure and improve the lives of children affected by
Kaposiform Hemangioendothelioma.
