Carmen Cruz, 74, of Valley Stream Long Island died on April 8, 2020 at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Carmen Cruz was born on July 30, 1945 in Puerto Rico to Cirilo Zayas and Pascuala Lopez. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. 

She attended school in New York, NY where she grew up with her sisters Lydia and Irma and brothers Jose and Luis. She served the public as a Patient Advocate for over 38 years at Gouverneur Hospital. Once retired she enjoyed spending time with her family and her Havanese Maltese dog, Remy. Outside of spending time with her family she also enjoyed exercising and was an active member of The Church of the Blessed Sacrament in Valley Stream.

She is survived by her siblings Luis Zayas and Lydia Brignoni, her children and their spouses, Robert Cruz and Lisa Cruz, Denise Cruz, Rafael Viera and Satera Febus, and Kristina Cruz and Djephy Lauzier. She was also the grandmother to Richard Mercado, Melissa Cruz, Samantha Cruz, Shealyn Molina, Kimani Viera, Steven Cruz, Justin Farmer and Kira Viera and great-grandmother to Bryson Mercado, Alexander Tanquina, and Karter Martinez.

She was preceded in death by her father, Cirilo Zayas, mother, Pascuala Lopez, and brother Jose Zayas.

The funeral will be held on April 21, 2020. Arrangements Will Be Announced.
