When I was little my Grandpa would come over every Monday for a meatloaf dinner while my Grandma was working late. I use to wait by the door and ring my hands in excitement. When it came time for him to leave to go pick up my Grandma from work I would tell him not to leave and to make Grandma take the bus s (sorry Grandma). When my parents separated we moved in with my Grandparents. I feel extremely lucky and honored that they helped raise me. I got to have breakfast with my Grandpa every morning before he went to work before he retired. One of my Grandpa’s favorite things to eat was potatoes and eggs which I was lucky enough to make for him one more time before he passed away. My Grandpa did everything for his kids and grandkids. He would take me to and from school, took me to church every Saturday, help me with my home work, watch tv with me, play games with me like monopoly which he called monotonous cause he said the game never ended. My Grandpa use to play school with me all the time. One time Grandpa wasn’t doing well in school. My Mom came home from work and asked, “where is Grandpa?”. “In the closet!”, I replied. To this day we can’t believe he listened to me and got in the closet. My Grandpa also loved my son Ricky and was able to create a special bond with him as well, eating cannolis and scratching lottery tickets together. I have so much I can say about my Grandpa and what a wonderful man he was. Grandpa I love you so much and I miss you so much it hurts. I just want to tell you thank you. Thank you for loving me and my kids. Thank you for all that you have done for me and my family. Thank you for all the memories. Thank you for all the Mets games at shea stadium, for all the times you would take me fishing and crabbing, for all the walks around fireman’s field to collect baseballs, for the mercurochrome you would put on every cut and cat scratch from your cat Mickey, for all the trips to Nathan’s, for all the Italian feasts and zeppoles, thank you for all the late night talks about Brooklyn like the bicycle you hid from your parents and your friend at the pool hall they called Loose Change, stories about the army, meeting Grandma, and raising your 4 kids, most of all thank you for being you. I love you Grandpa!
