My deepest condolences to you and your family for the loss of Mr.Cesternino. At times like this we all look for comfort and hope, and God's Word the Bible provides us with both. Note Jesus words of comfort to Martha, who just lost her brother, in John 11:23-25, "Your brother will rise, I am the resurrection and the life, he that exercises faith in me even though he dies, will come to life." Also please note the promise of our Lord in John 5:28,29, "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.....to a resurrection of life." What a wonderful time to look forward to, seeing our love ones again and they have the privilege of hearing Jesus call their name. I hope these verses help. so we go to a burglary in progress and meet an absolutely histerical guy who states the 3 burglars who broke in are under the kitchen table.
i grab my gun and flashlight and begin to search the house along with other officers at which time we hear voices saying things like "Go away" "Youre Doomed" "i'll kill you". we all look at each other like we jus saw ghosts and arent quite sure what to think, untill we look back and see Lt Cesternino holding an electric voice recorder which plays spooky noises and the look on his face was priceless because the "victim" began yelling "SEE, SEE, OMG THEYRE HERE!"
We never laughed harder since that night as Dennis was the only one who knew right away, this guy was a Nut who needed a riide to the psych ward asap.

as was everyone, I was rocked by Dennis' passing. My memories of Dennis go back to the days when we were assigned to the 106 Pct in 1985. As a newly assigned Sgt I relied upon the wisdom of Dennis and his partner John Marcone to lead me through the assimilation of the precinct. The duo was affectionately referred to as the "pasta car". If you needed to find the best cannnoli or cappuccino I only needed to ask them. The dry sense of humor was greatly appreciated and later served Dennis well. I spoke with Dennis earlier this year since we both worked for the Feds. He at LGA, I with JFK. It was always, always a pleasure to talk with such a nice person. I can only guess that the Lord needed someone with a great sense of humility and humor to fill a void. Sadly, he has left us with a great void. Until we meet again.............

My heart is so sad. Lt. was a true gentleman. The 102 has never been the same without him. Midnights were the best tour cause of him. His smile and charm brightened up every night. He will be truly missed and heaven has gained a great man. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Lt. Dennis Cesternino is a Great Man and will be deeply missed. I had the pleasure to work with Dennis for many years on the late tours in the 102 pct prior to his retirement. Things were never the same after he left, He was a great boss and person. He was one of those bosses who was also your friend. Many laughs and good memories were shared. To his loved ones.....When I think of Lieutenant Cesternino, I remember his smile. I remember a man who put his men and women first and always had our backs. He was a cops cop. We all knew how much he loved his family. If Lieutenant Cesternino was working, we drew a sigh of relief. I will always remember what a great guy he was. So sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss. I remember Dennis at family gatherings. Although I was too young to know him as an adult, I know from how all the cousins behaved when we spent time together that he was a great man who loved his wife and family and taught them the right things. He served his community and his memory will live on in all good deeds because that is the example he set.

It is with great sadness that I just learned of Dennis's passing. It was less then two years ago that Dennis reached out to me upon learning of my brothers passing. Dennis and my brother Barry were close friends growing up. We lived around the corner from each other in Woodhaven and our families new each other well. Both Dennis and my brother even entered the NYPD together and attained the same rank of Lieutenant before retiring. With a heavy heart my condolences go to his entire family. RIP Dennis say hello to Barry for me.

It is with a heavy heart that I learn of Dennis's untimely passing. I had the good fortune to work for Dennis in the NYPD’s 68 RIP Unit. He was my sergeant during a difficult period in my life. Dennis was a positive influence, mentor and friend. Since those days I often reflect and draw on my experiences with Dennis when making decisions as a sergeant, husband and father in my own life. Although we went our separate ways after the NYPD I often and fondly remember Dennis’s good humor, warm heart and pleasant disposition. He will be sorely missed and his memory will live on in all those he touched and influenced. Rest in Peace Dennis.

It is with heartfelt sympathy I offer my sincere condolences to the Cesternino family. Growing up, Dennis and his family lived around the corner from mine in Woodhaven. He was the same age and close friend of my brother. Their birthdays were three days apart, and they even took the same career path in the Police Dept, entering together and retiring at the same rank of LT. My prayers are with you all. I'm so so very sorry for your loss. The moment I heard the news from Lisa I had a memory from a few years back pop through my mind. I remember Lisa calling me up after accepting a new job and how happy she was about the position but how equally upset she was that her new job would keep her from watching her appointment TV with her dad: American Idol. Although it seems like such a silly little thing at the time...I know that that special time meant the world to her. It was so special that they had that bond and made that time for one another. That is what love is all about...appreciating all of the little moments. I hope the those and many more special memories carry you through this very difficult time. I won't lie and say I haven't shed many tears over the loss of my cousin Dennis, but after reading the words to 'share a laugh' I'm gonna try and share some early Dennis 'humor'.
I go back to our childhood days with the DiCaterino's and the Cesternino's, we did alot together, as our mother's were sisters....and so my cousin Dennis was always trying to 'con' me into his antics...like laying on our backs, arms stretched out, on the field in the back of our Grandmother's house in Cream Ridge, NJ in hopes that the hawks that were circling above would think we were prey (really? and then what, Dennis?)...or Dennis sneaking in and hiding under the bed numerous times at Wildwood and then jumping out while I was trying to change into my bathing suit ('MOMMY!!! Dennis is under the bed, again!!!'), I was the only girl on the family vacations at that time, hence the torture. also..... helping him hide our older cousin Bobby's clothes at Rova Farms Lake, only to have Bobby find out and drag and throw us both off the dock to which Dennis yells 'I can't swim' - in two feet of water!!! (I told him, just stand up!) all fun stuff, all good memories!
but the last time I saw Dennis, here in Jersey at my house after my Dad died in 2004, we were chatting and sipping some wine, and he just came over, gave me the biggest bear hug out of nowhere...and a kiss on the cheek.
my cousin Dennis.... I'll miss our emailing, and our Facebook quips and quick hellos. You'll be in my heart forever and I miss you already.

As I muddle through the tears, my prayers go out to my dearest cousin who was like the brother I never had. Dennis, our times together were amazing, and the memories of those times, are still with me. You were my mentor, and I will always keep you in my heart as I have all these years. You are my hero, and will never forget you. Rose, I am so saddened by this as I know you are but time will heal and you will be left with some great memories. My memory of the excitement I had hearing you & seeing you come down Nana's basement steps in your uniform when I was no more than 5 years old will remain forever in my heart. Our sincere condolences to the entire Cesternino family. Dennis and I shared our love of the Mets and Jets, and watching our sons play sports together. When the boys were young and playing soccer, Dennis always urged Danny to be aggressive. Before the final game, Dennis asked Danny what aggressive meant. Danny answered "having fun." We'll always remember that Dennis was "aggressive."
