Obituary of Vita Annette Capossela

Vita A. Capossela, 93, passed away on December 10th, 2021 peacefully in her sleep. She is survived by her daughters Joann and Margaret, daughter-in-law Erika Tencic, son Fred and son-in-law Jorge Garcia. She is predeceased by her parents George and Martha Rebecca, her sisters, Lillian Buontempo and Diana Janeczko and long-time best friend, Joan Watts.
Vita was born in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn on May 6, 1928. She attended Lincoln High School, where she played basketball and achieved several honors on the girls’ team.
Soon after graduating, she began working briefly and then in 1965, moved to Valley Stream to raise her family. After her children had grown, Vita went to college to further her education, and then earned a certificate from South Oaks Hospital for drug and alcohol abuse counseling.
In the early 1980’s, Vita moved to Woodmere and began a career in the optical industry. She worked for many years at Cohen’s Fashion Optical, until her retirement.
Throughout her life, Vita was very active and enjoyed bowling, golfing, and became a huge Mets fan. Watching her “boys” play was one of her favorite pastimes. She was a great cook and also loved music, dancing and singing.
A fierce defender of her family, Vita enjoyed spending time with her children, sisters and her nieces and nephews. She was also well-loved by many friends throughout the years, enjoyed entertaining and celebrating life.
Vita will be truly missed by her family and friends. She will be remembered for her keen sense of humor, but mostly for her laugh and beautiful smile.
