Obituary of Daniel S. Valenti

Daniel S. Valenti, 83, of Atlantic Beach, died on Tuesday, March 24, 2020. A private burial service was held for immediate family members on March 27, 2020. Daniel was born on June 7, 1936 in Far Rockaway, Queens, New York where he spent his formative years watching the fireworks from the boardwalk at Rockaways' Playland, boating in Jamaica Bay, swimming at the Rockaway beaches, and riding the motorcycles and cars that he fixed up himself. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Daniel served in the U.S. Army Reserve and Army National Guard, training at Fort Dix, New Jersey and Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas, before returning to New York to help man the Nike anti-aircraft missile battery at Lido Beach, ultimately earning an honorable discharge. With his beloved wife, Barbara, and their two children, Lauren and John, Daniel moved to the Five Towns hamlet of Woodmere in 1974, where their love-filled home was a site for countless family dinners, informal get-togethers, and holiday gatherings with family and friends for thirty years. Later relocating to Atlantic Beach, Daniel continued to enjoy their love and good company. Daniel understood the value of maintaining strong family ties and friendships and showed unwavering love, devotion and loyalty to those around him. He made many sacrifices for others, while striving to be kind and do good deeds. He will also be remembered for his dry sense of humor and wit. Predeceased by his parents, John and Josephine Valenti (nee' DeMayo), and his sister, Angela, Daniel is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara, his children Lauren Pease (Thomas) and John Valenti, his grandchildren Caroline, David and Daniel, and Angela's children, Joseph Artusa and Richard Artusa. The family intends to hold a memorial service for Daniel at a later date.
