Obituary of Christopher J. Neary
Christopher John Neary, lifelong resident of East Rockaway, NY passed away peacefully on December 9, 2018 at the Hospice Inn in Melville, NY. He was 63 years old.
Chris was born and raised in East Rockaway to Ken and Mary Neary of Barnstable Road, where he attended St. Raymond’s School and East Rockaway High School. In his teenage years, he began working in the kitchen at the East Point Inn restaurant. He continued to practice his craft when he entered the culinary program at SUNY Cobleskill, where he also met his wife. He continued his career as the executive chef at the East Point in for 30+ years. Afterwards, Chris brought his culinary knowledge and expertise to J. Kings Food Service Professionals, where he had been employed for the past 12 years.
A member of the American Culinary Federation, Chris earned his titles as Certified Executive Chef and Certified Culinary Administrator as well as admittance into the American Academy of Chefs. He was the recipient of many awards such as Chef of the Year, Chef Professionalism and the Presidential Medallion. Throughout his involvement with the ACF, Chris served as a teacher and mentor to many, and he defined leadership during his tenure as the President of the Long Island Chapter and the Vice President of the Northeast Region.
Outside of his work, Chris enjoyed fishing, golfing, traveling, and chocolate. He was kind, humble and faithful. He was loved and respected by everyone he knew.
Chris is survived by his wife, Michele, his children Jennifer (Jason) Simonetti, Liz (Tom) Franks, and Megan (Jimmy) O’Brien, his grandchildren Kate, Aiden and Emily, and his brothers Tim (Kim) Neary and Greg (Kathy) Neary, as well as his many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
He is predeceased by his parents, Ken and Mary Neary, and his sister, Sharon (Paul) Grupp.
