Dear Jordan Family-
My sincere condolences on the loss of such a wonderful person. Mary was a second mother, a friend, and a mentor to me especially in my early days! In 1982, at the age of 16, my mother was urging me to get a job as most parents do. A friend in Highschool told me to goto Engineers Country Club and speak with Mary to bus tables on the weekends and sure enough, I was hired!
Mary was the type of person who would take under her wing providing you worked hard, showed loyalty and wanted to better yourself. I’m grateful to her for putting up with my teenage years and giving me a profound work ethic. Mary saw something in myself that I didn’t know existed. Her insight, maternal instincts and patience were extraordinary. I kept getting merit promotions and by the time I was 19, I was Mary’s assistant. At one point, I decided to leave for college, but was called down on the weekends to help the Club as Mary was going through a horrific personal time as her beloved Tricia became ill. I was only glad to help.
In 1991, the manger at the time made changes and I was dismissed with a baby in my arms. During this time, Mary kept in touch and made sure I was doing okay. Two years later, the manager left, Mary became the interim GM of the Club where she called me back for duty. During this time, Club life was beginning to change where Mary felt I was the one to bring it up to date. Working at a club became my social life and I established a new family with the staff and membership through many decades working there. I worked at Engineers Country Club for a total of 29 years, seven years as the GM (later in life, I became the GM of Cold Spring Country Club for five years). After Mary’s retirement, I visited her in Delray Beach, FL for a few years until she went to live with Family.
I will never forget Mary as I truly believe I was touched by an Angel!
Thank you Mary for believing in me and giving me an opportunity that gave me success in life.
