Obituary of GEORGE M. DASCHER
George Dascher was born on October 1, 1949 in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen. A proud veteran of the Vietnam war, George was known for energy that far exceeded his stature.
George’s love of his wife, Linda, daughters Danielle, Lauren and Katie, son Bapu, Adam, granddaughter Scarlett, and two soon to be born granddaughters were known to all.
George enthusiastically coached a generation of female athletes at St. Camillus and St. Rose of Lima in Rockaway. Moving to Valley Stream, George started and ran the Valley Stream Summer Basketball League in Hendrickson Park for 20 years, while continuing to coach at Holy Name of Mary. A lover of New York sports, George had a New York team for each season.
A retired NYC Transit Authority plumber, George enjoyed golf and many games of chance. George’s trademark bucket hat, his friendly manner and active volunteering will be missed by many.
George is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law: Susan Hofmann (Billy), Colleen Klose (Paul), Tara Murgolo, Erin McDowell, George Rippe, Rusty (Mary Ellen), his nieces and nephews Christopher Hofmann, Billy and Tommy Murgolo, Krista Rogers, James, Lauren, Katie, and Shannon Stroud, Ann Romano, Sue Devenuto-Napolitano, Chris Napolitano, Taylor Devenuto, and many friends.
