Obituary of LEROY FREDERICK
Leroy Frederick of Valley Stream New York, passed away on March 24,
2021 at home, surrounded by family. Leroy was from Parryland/Point Fortin,
Trinidad & Tobago and he proudly held on to his Trini culture. However, equally
dear to him was his adopted country, the United States, where he lived the
majority of his life and raised his family, in Queens Village, NY and Weston,
Florida.
Leroy attended Tutorial HS school and went on to join the Trinidad and Tobago
Police Servicve (Constable 6572) at the age of 20. In 1969 he married his
childhood sweetheart Ena Frederick (née Miller) and together they relocated to
the United States in 1972. From there, he joined the US Army and for 2 years
actively served with a rank of SP4 and spent one more year in the reserves. After
being honorably discharged from active duty, he worked for 28 years with the US
DOJ for the Immigration and Naturalization Service, which took him on
assignments around the world. He was a voracious student of history, politics and
celebrity gossip. Although he came across as a quiet and observant man, Leroy
was always ready for a debate or a good lime. In retirement, Leroy had a passion
for photography, reading and BBQing; while in Florida he could be found sailing
and fishing on his boat (named after his dear Grandmother Alexandrina). Later, he
returned to New York so that he could enjoy watching his grandchildren grow up.
He was loving, dependable and enjoyed life.
Leroy is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Ena, children Luanne (Evens), Dave
(Laurian), Dale (William), Roxanne, and Eric (Sheila). He was a proud grandfather
to Dexter, Rianne, Samantha, Nicholas, Kestra, Amanda and Fiona as well as a
great grandfather to Tye’je, Larayne, Jahkel, Aaliyah. Leroy will be fondly
remembered by his 13 siblings in Trinidad and St. Croix.
Cancer took Leroy from us far too soon, and we shall forever cherish the time we
spent in this life together.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please consider making a donation
to cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering, by going to Leroy's Personal
Donation Page http://www.bitly.com/LeroyFrederick.
