Obituary of JOSEPHINE IZZO
Josephine Izzo Sunrise: March 20, 1931 Sunset: January 29, 2021
Josephine (Bonaventura) Izzo was born in 1931, in Brooklyn, New York, to parents Mario and Jenny Bonaventura.
In 1955, on the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Josephine married Fred Izzo, whose side she remained at—through “thick and thin”—for nearly 69 years. They have four children: Karen Izzo (married to Eric Karle), Kathleen Izzo, Stephen Izzo (married to Sharon Kidd) and Richard Izzo. Josephine was a dedicated wife and mother, who in addition to devoting her life to her family, touched the lives of thousands of children in her 37-year career as a NY City and Long Island elementary-school teacher. She was an avid reader with a deep intellectual curiosity, one which prompted her to read countless books, speak three languages and write poetry. She also loved to work on crossword puzzles, and though having had no formal training, play the piano each and every day.
Josephine was generous to all in need before meeting her own needs. She gave regularly to many charities and also knit blankets and baby clothes that she donated to the Sisters of the Poor and other philanthropies. She believed in the power of daily prayer, and her life was an inspiration to her family and those all around her.
Josephine passed away on January 29, 2021. She leaves behind her loving husband, Fred, her children, seven grandchildren (Stephanie, James, Matthew, Katherine, Jonathan, Victoria and Joseph), several nieces/nephews and her sister, Sally Puleo.
May her soul rest in peace.
